Trip Cancelled Due To Global Warming
For an ill-planned trip it had everything going for it. Jen could take care of Stella. The bike was freshly oiled. My pack was ready. The MLK holiday would make for a long weekend. Got up around 6:30am. Saw Stella and Jen off and put on extra warm gear. I would haul everything to work and leave from there for Cherokee. Then over the next few days make my to the top of North Carolina, maybe Boone, and back home again and I’d do it on the world traveler, my F650GS Dakar. The bike, advertised as a go-anywhere, do-anything, continent-crossing, Dakar-winning (well not recently) super bike, wouldn’t start because it was so cold. I tried a few dozen times to no avail, finally giving up and taking the VW to work (it was a little grumpy too).
BMW, I’m trying to promote motorcycles as a legitimate means of transportation, not just toys! This doesn’t suffice! This motorcycle was produced in Berlin with an Austrian engine! Both of those places get cold!
Its still really cold and it still won’t start. Research suggests various workarounds like using the heated coil of a camping stove to heat the engine block and other things that make you look ridiculous sitting in a parking lot.
The upside to staying at home on such a cold weekend is all the toys I haven’t gotten around to playing with lately:
Both taken with the new camera that will hopefully never be stolen like the old camera.
