The High Life In Atlanta

Leaving the helipad on top of the W Downtown for a flight around the city!

I planned this surprise a couple of weeks ago when I brainstorming some things we could do that would be in the city but different from the everyday types of things we might do on any weekend. You can see the helipad from the interstate and I’m always curious about what’s on top of buildings so when I found a way that we could go up there, I had to do it! We arrived early and went to a place called Drink Shop inside the W for a few drinks while, at least Jen thought, we were waiting for our dinner reservation at BLT. What she didn’t know was since we left the house I was receiving text messages from the pilot. The last message: “Lifting now, landing at the W helipad in 5 min.” How cool is that? So we went downstairs and waited to be escorted to the top floor, floor “H”, of the building. When we got there we went outside onto the roof and up a couple flights of stairs and it was fantastic. The helicopter was sitting there with its rotors spinning. These are the pics we took as we flew around:

Its a tiny helicopter. Check out the instrument panel.

Tech Tower at GT. I knew we would fly by this and that Jen would be excited.

You can see where the new glass has been installed on the Westin. See the brown ring around the bottom?

My original Atlanta home near Piedmont. I used to live down the street from the blue building. In the foreground is The High Museum.

Here’s Atlantic Station with Buckhead in the distance. Most of those buildings are relatively new.

Fritz or Franz (I forget his name) took a half dozen pictures for us.

And finally, making our way back down into the building.

Afterwards we went to BLT and had a great dinner!
