The Difference Between A Moth And A Butterfly

I found one difference for visually distinguishing a moth from a butterfly is that moths rest with their wings open while butterflies rest with their wings upright (though there are exceptions). More importantly, the antenna of a butterfly are clubbed whereas the moth's tend to have fern-like antenna. There is only one group of butterflies known to have antennae that are not clubbed. The moth is also fatter and duller in color in general with a fuzzy body and many are nocturnal. However, the differentiation is not scientific.

So this is probably a butterfly, not a moth.

But this one, according to the first assumption, would be a moth. Yet it has the clubbed antenna associated with the butterfly. But then again, it's fat and dull like a moth. I found no information to support this, but the wing pattern, to me looks like a butterfly's. So once again, a butterfly.

Yep, a butterfly.
