Canal Trek

I went back out to the locks today to follow some of the trails that run along the river's edge. Now in early summer, the plant life down there is intensely green with tons of insect and amphibian life hopping and flying about. It was very hot, despite the shade, but very relaxing as well. I intended to get some photos of various plants and insects but forgot to change the batteries in the camera before heading out.

In other news, I bought an ipod nano (black, 1Gb) for the trip. While it feels cheaper than the video its size and expendability make it perfect for situations where it might be lost (ala my gps). You'd think they'd have fixed all the problems with the scratching and fingerprints by now, but they haven't. I've used it all of two times since yesterday and its already blemished with fingerprints that simply smudge when you try to remove them. It's like every Apple product, it comes in a good looking box and looks good in the box but it doesn't stand up to real world use (at least not without various replacement parts or accessories). At least it now comes with a parody of the case that came with the video. However, I'm sure it will compete with the other contestants in this contest in two months' time. All in all, I can't complain. For something I'm willing to leave on a train, it works very well. Plus it works with the crappy fm transmitter in the car so I "save" myself $50 that way.
