Spencer came up today to show me the ropes on motorcycle riding. I've been doing parking lot practice on the weekends but Spencer introduced me to some of the real uses of the Dakar and the importance of clutch control for tackling obstacles at slow speed. This is something that I definitely need to practice more. He also took the bike for a spin and gave me some pointers on what to get fixed (besides the two mirrors :)). I have to say I was impressed with his ability on the bike and with the abilities of the bike itself. He hopped on, sped off, jumped the curb, etc and both rider and bike looked like they were running their natural pace. Afterwards we drove around the neighborhoods and then put the Dakar back in its stable. The morning ride (when I lost the 2nd mirror) and Spencer chaperoning flipped a switch. I know I can do this now and will continue to practice the methods he taught me and the methods from the BRC in the parking lot but will also move out into the neighborhoods and low-traffic areas for "real world" experience. So a big thanks to Joe Spencer for riding all the way from Augusta to help me out, I really appreciate it.
