Mega-Marriage-Moto-Mountain Weekend

On Thursday I rode out to Augusta to celebrate the wedding of Kishan and Anita.

Michael and Wanda let me stay at their place on Thursday and Friday nights. Here's Miss America at the Wright Estate.

Friday morning we attended the wedding. Here is Kishan in the groom's procession. Obviously he's the guy with the head garb under the umbrella.

A bit of dancing.

The Brain Trust during the wedding ceremony. That's (from right to left) Josh, Brent, Michael, Wanda, myself, Lisa, and Steve. After the ceremony we had lunch. It was all really good except this one dish in a suspiciously small bowl. I'll try anything once and I like most foods but this was the most disgusting thing I've eaten in recent memory. No idea what it was, think it was vinegar and artichokes or something.

"We're leaving this once in a lifetime event to go back to work! hahaha!" sigh.

The wedding took place at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion. Here you can see how the place was decked out. Most of these pics didn't turn out because of our poor choice in seating.

After the wedding and work, we (Spencer and wife, Michael, Wanda, Josh, [Kc]ourtney, Brent, and I) went to the Fish Camp. Old McDonald Fish Camp is this weird place where they have a semi-petting zoo with ducks, swans, goats, and peacocks and oh they run a restaurant inside. They sell catfish, alligator, shrimp, scallops, crab, hush puppies, grits, etc. Later we went to see Indiana Jones 4 (It's ok, true to the Indiana Jones legacy but the story is flimsy).

Before the reception on Saturday we went to the river to do some swimming and sitting around. I was sunburned within 2 minutes. It was fun though.

Then we went to the reception and saw Kishan and had some good Indian food. (I forgot to mention above that I forgot my razor and didn't realize it until about an hour before the wedding.) We had to leave early because we were going to Gatlinburg and didn't want to drive at all hours.

Leaving at 8:30 we didn't get to Gatlinburg until well after midnight. Here our vehicles take a break while we take a leak.

The next morning we ate at the Pancake Pantry.

Then we went into the park.

We weren't the only ones up there. Here's the parking lot at Newfound Gap. Someone was stung by a bee and went into shock. An ambulance came and took them away. We walked a bit of that Appalachian Trail or whatever its called.

The mountains look mostly like this.

We took the Blue Ridge Parkway up to Waterrock Knob and hiked the trail there. Here's the view from the top.

And here's how we got there.

These were along the trail.

There is a bear in this picture. I can't find it now, but there's definitely one there somewhere. We took the scenic loop at Cade's Cove at dusk and two bear, a few turkey, and a bunch of deer. The next day we saw another bear. The one you can't see in the picture above was the biggest of the three I think. We saw other life too...

Like this centipede from the Abram's Falls Trail.

And this flower.

And this butterfly.

Gravel is slippery. Here's the bike at the Abram's Falls trailhead.

2.5 miles later, we found this.

After hiking to the falls, we drove back through the park and out to Cherokee for lunch. We stopped at a place called Paul's where there was an assortment "Indian food", though not a spoonful of curry to be found. I had the "Indian Taco" which was a taco salad in spirit but fattened up with frybread. It was ok. Afterwards we went our separate ways, Michael and Wanda back through Asheville and me down 441 to I985/85. A few short 159 miles later, I am back home and Miss America is chained once again to her tree. The boxes bungied to the back are the clothes and shoes I wore to the wedding. These are the same bungies that smacked me in the forehead while attaching them in Augusta. I also hurt my finger. Please, read the warning labels on bungie cords, they're not joking.

Here's the 662 mile circuit, across 4 states.
