Saw Long Way Down

Loved it! An improvement on Long Way Round in a lot of ways though the two go hand in hand. They spent a lot less time discussing trip planning and got straight to the ride, from the top of Scotland down to South Africa. When I arrived at the theater, I was the only person there. Slowly more and more people showed up but it was hardly full. Maybe a quarter full. The great thing about a movie like this is that the audience is very focused. You go to see Batman or any major motion picture and its you and the people you went with and then everybody else. For this type of picture you're in there with people that all enjoy the same things: adventure, travel, and specifically adventure touring on motorcycles. One of the people I met was Curtis Baker who just a few weeks ago finished a trip from Atlanta to Alaska and back, then on to Key West and back. He rode up with 6 other people, all on R1200GSs. Check out his blog and his gallery. Also in the movie at one point Ewan and Charlie are out in the middle of nowhere Africa and they come upon a guy riding a bicycle. The support team asks him where he's from, he says he left the UK 13 years ago and has been circumnavigating the globe by way of PEDAL BOAT, roller blading across America, pedal boating across the Pacific, etc, etc. There's no doubt this must be Jason Lewis who pedaled across the Atlantic, was hit by a car while roller blading across the US, and later continued the journey in the pedal boat without Stevie Smith. Small world I guess. Curtis says the movie has some missing scenes and that DVD is more complete so I'll have to check that out.
