Canoeing and Geocaching The Savannah River

Today we rented two canoes from AWOL, who dropped us off at the headgates of the canal (same place we were geocaching a few weekends ago). Our mission was to find as many caches along the river as possible, but to definitely find The Savannah River Island Cache (GCH6YD)

The launch of the canoes. RunsOnSumatra (navigator) carefully makes his way to the front.

First mate Kishan looks on as RunsOnSumatra and Wanda are forced to backtrack through a rocky corridor.

We disembark on a visit to one of the mysterious river islands.

The mother load. We've waited a long time to find GCH6YD. It is on one of the islands in the middle of the river.

Other than turtles, large birds, and deer, we didn't see much wildlife on the river. However, when we got to the North Augusta boat ramp, we came across a small blacksnake chasing a lizard. Here it is retreating to the bushes.

We ended up finding two caches, GCH6YD and GC805E. Afterwards we went to Famous Dave's for its rejuvenating BBQ and sweet tea. More photos in the photo gallery.

Quito Packing List

Google notebook is a pretty handy way of creating and editing lists as you search the web. I've used it to put together my Quito packing list.
